So you want to Pet Battle?
Here's a little start up guide that will make the grind a little bit more bearable.
Important to note: My leveling strat is specific with the Feline Familiar. Your end goal is to have a level 25 Feline Familiar (along with 2 other level 25 pets for back up). You'll note once you have a level 25 Feline Familiar, it can carry your other pets in Pandaria, on it's own, maxing the XP of your next pets of choice to level.
Step 1.
Choose a good leveling pet.
What you want to look for is a pet with some self heals to mitigate your down time for leveling.
For myself, I went with the Feline Familiar. Beast pets are generally a great pet to deal with, bundle this with Stoneskin and Devour, and you'll have less wait time to heal your pet and more time to move on to your next pet battle target.
Step 2.
Stick with levels higher than your pet. Choose levels you can manage, but the higher the opponent's level, the more experience for your pet.
Once you have enough level, proceed to each trainer in every zone possible. You have chances for reward and more XP.
Step 3.
You may notice, the higher the level of the pets/zone, that you are faced against pets with teammates.
As you level, you will also gain a battle slot to enter in your next pet as well, and because your "go to" pet will be your main focus, bring along a battle pet with H/H stats as they have higher health pools and will be able to take some hits before dying. You'll still need to level your 2nd/3rd pets, but if you follow my strat, your Feline Familiar is all you will need.
Step 4.
Once you have your level 25 Feline Familiar (with Stoneskin/Devour) head to Halfhill; Valley of the Four Winds.
There you will be choosing critter targets for optimum damage - so /tar those Marsh Fiddlers. It's important to battle these as you have a HIGH chance that their first ability will be a heal, or another small hit.
What you do here, is have your Feline Familiar in your 1st battle slot. In your 2nd battle slot, enter in your level 1 pet you wish to level.
Once the battle commences, automatically switch to your level 1 pet. Again, good chance it will take a small hit, or the Marsh Fiddler will heal as it's first ability.
After your 1st move, it is important to swap back to your Feline Familiar to finish killing the Fiddler and 2 other back-line pets. This will give your level 1 optimal XP and should most likely reach level 3 after the 1st battle. Proceed to battle Marsh Fiddlers until your new pets reach level 25.
Bear in mind, this won't be too quick a process so please be patient. However, I find, by using the Feline Familiar, you will cut down a lot of time as you won't have to wait and heal it as often due to it's self-heals.
